Motus Wildlife Tracking Network 2023 Annual Report Published

News

The 2023 Motus annual report has been published. The Motus Wildlife Tracking System is a collaborative global network of automated radio telemetry receivers for tracking small migratory wildlife (birds, bats, and insects) that have been tagged.

The news release on the annual report by the DNR Wildlife Diversity News states that there are 19 Motus stations in Iowa, and in 2023 they recorded 151 birds from 21 species, all of which were tagged outside of Iowa. Each station can typically detect wildlife within a 15 km radius. See the news release for highlights and/or view the full annual report.

As reported in our July 2023 newsletter, Dubuque Audubon contributed $1000 towards the receiver at the Mines of Spain.
